Pink Heart Appreciation
Shauna Burke, November 17
All three families most seriously affected by the tragic accident, braved the cold and snow on Saturday November 9 to attend a concert in Racette School Gym. The event was held to say thank you to all the volunteers and supporters who helped support these families and all families impacted by the accident.
John W Myslicki, the host of the event, heard about the accident and about a memorial scholarship fund set up by the Wolitski family. He donated a hockey Jersey signed by Vlislav Tretiak who was a goalie in the famous 1927 hockey series between Canada and Soviet Union to a CFCW radio auction and raised over $12,000 for the memorial fund.
The Hats for Healing team Brandi Lin Frowen, Pamela Martin Bohn, Renee Jacoba Robinson, Leah Wilkins Burton and Lisa Martin with the help of the Pink Heart Campaign Norm Noel and Helen Chapdelaine organized an auction at the Rec. Centre raising over $70,000 for the three families most impacted by the tragic events.
Numerous business and individuals donated money and auction items. The community bid generously to show their support. The entire community pulled together.
The concert was a way of saying thank you to every one who donated time, money, goods or love and support to help the community heal from the tragic accident.
Below is the opening song by Cassidy Starr Zahar and Harry Rusk on guitar, his wife Gladys on keyboard and Don Thompson on the Hawaiian steel guitar.
